“Eigentlich” again

Abstract

Experimental data on the interpretation of the German adverb “eigentlich” are presented. The formal account of Schmitz and Schr¨oder (2004) to the explanation of these data is discussed and substantially modified. We arrive at an improved account that makes use of the integration of pragmatic operations of meaning enrichment into compositional semantics.
