Norm-Relatedness in Degree Constructions
AbstractWe consider the distribution of norm-related readings with dimensional adjectives across various degree construction in Russian and English and argue that the observed pattern as well as some well-known asymmetries in the use of antonyms in English follow from the assumption that gradable adjectives are ambiguous between the scalar and the vague predicate meaning.
