Verification Strategies for Two Majority Quantifiers in Polish
Abstract
We provide experimental evidence suggesting that the logical structure of linguistic expressions can directly influence aspects of nonlinguistic cognition. Specifically, we show that quantifier semantics provides a set of instructions to visual verification processes. Each of the two Polish majority quantifiers wi?kszo?? and najwi?cej biases a distinct verification strategy that is used as a default under time pressure. Each canonical verification strategy overrides other alternative strategies for truth verification as proposed in Lidz et al. (2009).Downloads
