Formalization ov Coercions in Lexical Semantics

Abstract

Coercions are not all alike. Container/contents coercions make standard and coerced content avail- able for future discourse exploitation. But eventuality based coercions and others don’t. The typology of coercions with respect to their behavior on discourse continuations seems rich and in need of investigation, especially cross-linguistically. We propose a framework that is robust enough and precise enough to permit an investigation of this typology.
