Oddness and probability-sensitivity of number-marked indefinites in negation and questions

Abstract

We first present an approach to the oddness of indefinites under negation and in polar questions based on presuppositional exhaustification (Pex) and a ban on post-accommodation triviality and explore its extension to probability-sensitive gradient felicity. However, we show that this approach struggles to account for probability-sensitivity in polar questions. To address this challenge, we propose a novel account that captures both the oddness and probabilitysensitivity of indefinites under negation and in questions, drawing on partition by exhaustification.
