Capturing degree uses of 'even'

Abstract

This paper aims to capture a particular class of examples that have been taken to challenge the additive presupposition of even. The core argument is that weakening even’s additive presupposition so that it takes into account preconditions for the truth of its alternatives correctly derives the observed weakened additivity of even in environments where degree scales are salient without unduly weakening it elsewhere.
